Universal Waste Electronic Devices

Search UWED Materials Handlers/Recyclers

California law requires all handlers of waste UWED materials to notify DTSC. This notification may be submitted electronically via DTSC's Web site. Currently, this list includes only CRT/UWED material handlers who have notified using DTSC's On Line Notification and Annual Reporting system.

Anyone who intends to accept CRT/UWED devices from off site must notify DTSC at least 30 days in advance. However, not all handlers who submit this required notification will accept UWED materials from the public. For example, some handlers accept and consolidate only CRT/UWED materials generated by a single company or institution for bulk shipment to a recycling facility. Others may contract with a retailer to accept old CRT devices from customers who have replaced them with new devices.

Electronic Waste Recycling Act Participants

Some UWED material handlers who have notified DTSC of their activities have also applied to the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) to be Approved Collectors under the Electronic Waste Recycling Act. CIWMB maintains a list of Approved Collectors and Approved Recyclers of CRT materials and Universal Waste Electronic Devices (UWEDs) on its Web site.
